Unless you are cooking everything, the Holidays are pretty stationary holiday which leads us to tip number one.

Move

Usually this is difficult as we sit the majority of the time: watch parades, watch football, and eat. Let’s be honest that basically all you do.  At MXC we have our 21 day Challenge to help out our members to kick off the holidays.  Some families play some outdoor games. Or even put yourself in charge of the little ones during the festivities. They will for sure make you run around all day. Or maybe you show off some of your new Kickboxing and Krav Maga moves (in slow motion of course!)

Portions

Although it might seem like it to your family but Thanksgiving is not a eating contest. There’s no prize for who eats the most yam. Pace yourself. Use the smallest plate you can find. And you don’t need to make it mount saint mash potatoes either.

Timing

There is always leftover so pace youself. Get a plate of food, sit down enjoy your loved ones, get another round of food. I have been apart of dinners that have been three hours long. Using the small plate technique, you could make 3 trips during that time.

Drinks

Watch out for empty calorie drinks, like punch. If you enjoy wine enjoy a glass or two, three at the max over the course of the whole day. You can enjoy a beer or two as well. Just be aware of having too much. Once intoxicated it is hard to keep good eating habits.

Dessert

Let me remind you dessert is not a meal. A slice of pie or 2-3 cookies is dessert. Having a slice of all three of your aunts’ pies, cookies, and brownies covered in whip cream is a dentist’s dream, not dessert. Here’s a secret, during thanksgiving no one really goes to the refrigerator. Take a slice of it and put it in the refrigerator. Go back to it in a while. This will guarantee you get to try this sweet treat without worrying if it will run out.
