When his Kickboxing and Krav Maga classes first opened in the DFW area, Coach Larry Clay had just a few students. Since then, his school has grown to 200 + students including children over just the last year. Because of this, there is now a second Monster X Camp (MXC # 2 in Keller/Ft. Worth, TX) to open within the next month.
Among the many philosophies and techniques Clay aspires to share by training others, one aspect he enjoys his students realizing is that Krav Maga- a system which was designed for the Israeli Defense Forces- is practical, realistic, and easy to learn, but even more so is a method of training that will and does get its students into the best shape of their lives seamlessly easy, as they train. While this is true, what matters to him most is that everyone is treated as family, in this non-intimidating yet extremely effective workout environment for his fitness system and method of reality based self defense.
One of Coach Clay’s students knows this thoroughly and first hand.

On September 10th 2011, in Grapevine, Texas, after almost 4 years of training, a 34 year old local Executive Project Manager and student of Coach Larry Clay is undergoing his exam for Black Belt in a rare Israeli Self Defense system called Krav Maga. Coach Larry Clay, a Minster and the owner and head instructor of the only Krav Maga school in the Grapevine/Southlake area opened Monster X Camp early 2010 after running a handful of successful martial arts facilities in Lubbock, Texas. It was in Lubbock, he and Dallas native, Jeff Katz first met each other, but it wasn’t until both moved to the North Dallas area they formed a strong bond as student and teacher, and an even stronger friendship.
Jeff started doing Kickboxing and Krav Maga for two reasons and they remain the same today; “To have fun and get physically fit while learning something all people should have if they ever need it…simple, reality based self defense”. The most common question when someone tests for this ultimate honor is often, “From who?” The black belt must be awarded by a student’s trainer after the student has been able to prove his or her ability in training on the mat or in competition. Mr. Katz will be judged by Coach Clay, who has trained in various forms of Martial Arts since 1978 and carries black belts in 8 different methods of martial arts, and by a panel of seven other Black Belts from Krav Maga and other systems of Reality Based Martial Arts. Clay’s experience can be seen coming out of the students who train at Monster X Camp, in what is not just a mere Martial Arts/Fitness facility, but also a facility that everyone seems to be a very comfortable part of, in a HUGE family type environment.
